In the body of work Journal Entries, Zacarias overlays sewn phrases onto Talavera-painted fabric. These phrases build up her perspective and trajectory of self-discovery and identification. By fusing different cultures in her artwork, Zacarias aims to break down the boundaries of class, gender, and color and to promote diversity and inclusion through conversation. I hope to aid the advancement of societal consciousness and to evoke thought about what it really means to be intersectional in a minority today.
