REFLEXIONES
2018, Silkscreen and acrylic on plexi mirror, 64 x 48"
I draw from the bold and bright colored iconography seen in Mexican culture and incorporate it with high contrast large-scale screenprints and mixed media. In Reflexiones, the Talavera design is screen printed on 8 x 8-inch mirror panels inspired by "Azul Anil," the same hue of blue as Frida Kahlo’s house in Coyoacan, Mexico City. The reflections in the repeated panels create “glimpses” of past and present, and projections of future experiences. I aim to break down boundaries of class, gender, and color and to promote diversity and inclusion through conversation.
