WHITE WASH

2018, Monoprint, 1/3, 8 x 8" each

Through her personal experiences as a Hispanic female in America, Zacarias’ artwork explores cultural and racial identity. Influenced by her Mexican upbringing and "talavera" design, Zacarias creates serigraphs of recreated Mexican iconography. She then freehand paints the word "WHITE WASH" to start a conversation on how certain descriptors can change one's own perspective on their identity. Zacarias aims to break down boundaries of class, gender, and color and to promote diversity and inclusion through conversation. The first edition of this piece can be found at the Trinity University Coates Library permanent collection.
